If we value today, we won’t wait for someday

Today is the most significant gift to do things that matter.

“While it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.””

Hebrews 13:15.

Someday and today are different. Someday is imaginary, none existent. Because no one knows what day is going to be someday. None is certain what day is going to be our last.

Conversely, today is the present moment. Now. Now is the moment we are certain of. It is available to all of us. It is the same for everyone. Today is too precious to fritter away with things that do not matter.

Yet, we relax and speculate about a mythical someday in the future. We imagine we will do the things that matter to us when that someday comes. When we are prepared enough — when we have amassed enough resources.

If we value today, we won’t wait for someday — when we grow old, when we’re financially stable, when we have enough skills, when we get adequate time — to do what is important to us. Because we don’t have all the time and luxury on earth.

I know you’re determined to achieve incredible dreams. Hopes. Goals. Assignments…so do I. And I hope you know someday isn’t entitled to anyone. What we’re all entitled to is to someday vacate this brutal planet of ours we call home.

Because we are all fragile fragments of dust, curbed in a small box of space and time, and soon we return to the very same fabric we’re made of. Earth. Ebbing embers in a vast river carried to the very same ocean. Transient vapour, vaporizing to nothingness. Verdant grass, in the same garden of life, scorched by the very same heat of life, and soon we droop to final gloom.

This truth isn’t to scare us to death so we leave earlier than the appointed time! Nor is it to paralyze us before we can even begin to move forward. It is to remind us of how little time we have, how fleeting our existence is.

Then, we have to remember how powerful we are — what we can accomplish in the very present moment, today. How we can confront the ravenous storms and swim to the deep where our treasures lie.

“A sense of urgency is the one thing you can develop that will separate you from everyone else. When you get a good idea, do it now.”

Brian Tracy.

I want to remind you that it is our God-given purposes that anchor our spreading roots firmly deep in the ground of life. It is our purposes that make us perpetually stick to our life paths. And we must make our purposes alive by engaging in life. Today. Perpetually.

I hope we can learn from Jesus who valued His purpose to the extent that he couldn’t waste an iota of valuable time with the crowd. He used His time wisely and responsibly since He was determined to fulfil His purpose no matter what.

“Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them; but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also because for this purpose I have been sent.”

Luke 4:42-43.

If the purpose we want to accomplish here on earth is aligned with God’s will, it must prevail; it must bear fruits. God desires to fulfil his promises to us so that we can glorify Him.

My friends, it is up to us to make our purposes alive and fruitful in the present moment. It is the moment to sow quality seeds in our lives and those of others before we want to enjoy the fruits and the shade. It is time to give our best where we are planted right now. I hope you take today as the most significant gift and do the things that matter to you. God will take care of the process and the results.

Questions to consider

1. Do you have an unquenchable yearning after a well-thought objective that matters too much to you that you have a compelling reason to accomplish no matter what?

It may be starting your dream business, or writing a book, or opening a children’s home, or furthering your studies, or starting a blog to share your good thoughts, or giving your life to Jesus Christ,… what is it?

If you don’t have, by faith ask God right now to give you a divine idea — an idea aligned with His will and purpose for your life. Remember the idea of God is different from that of man. The idea of man may fail but that of God must prevail. Now, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart as in rebellion!

2. What setbacks are holding you back from accomplishing the thing that matters to you?

I know you’re thinking of setbacks, and they are guaranteed. You can develop an attitude of urgency, a crucial catalyst to action. You can decide to focus either on the obstacles or on your purpose. The more you focus on the obstacles, the more they become bigger than your purpose, the more they are likely to weigh you down. On the other hand, the more you focus on your purpose, the more it becomes real, the more possibilities there are, the more it becomes feasible to accomplish.

3. Now, are you determined to plunge into action today? Who can help you?

Choose to dive into the ocean right now. Entrust God to strengthen you to navigate the storms. He’s bigger than the obstacles you’re seeing. I assure you that no man or devil will stop you!

“And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now, our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”

Romans 13:11-12.
