Gold and glitters

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Matthew 16:26–27.

The world and all its glittery is temporary; our human bodies are mortal. We can count our properties but we can’t count the time left in this world. I would rather follow after gold which has a lasting value than follow after glitters which are ephemeral. These are truths we must always remember.

Fellow believers, even if the whole world turns against us, we can still resolve to follow Jesus. Because He’s our greatest reward. If we lose him we’re left empty even if we have all the wealth of this world.

Like Peter we can ask:

… “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

John 6:68-69.

We must therefore choose to walk through the narrow path — the least travelled path. Walk with a lot of caution and endurance because there is a likelihood of the honest capitulating to the allure of the glitters of this world which are fleeting. The insatiable lust for wealth, power, position and fame through corrupt ways — shortcuts short of God’s glory. And many vulnerable nobles are swallowing this vicious bait sadly being swallowed by the world.

Beloved, your calling is great, your assignment is big, your purpose is divine; you can’t afford to live anyhow. You’ve to live carefully not carelessly. God chose you out of the many to show to the world His glory that dwells in you. We’re in the world but not part of the world; we’re heaven-bound, we can’t afford to live as the world lives. (John 17:14–18).

We can’t choose to love the world and its desires, riches, fame, power, pleasure — these temporal shadows. We can choose to follow and walk the purpose for which we’re called and sent. We can purpose and strive to live like Jesus, who didn’t fit in but understood His divine purpose and assignment which He carried out in time and completed at the cross. Jesus’s anointing couldn’t allow Him to fit in. Your anointing can neither too.

We won’t be given another chance to correct our walk with the Lord. We must make that decision right now, and abide in Him. Because in a flicker of light, all things concerning our lives can change.

Jesus loves you!
