What do you do when you’re feeling difficult emotions?

“He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.

Isaiah 53:3-4.

We oftentimes feel terrible and say we’re down and done. We assume that things aren’t working. Yet, the earth won’t refuse to revolve around the sun when we say “we’re down.” The sun will rise and touch the horizon even when we say “we’re done.” Even in our darkest moments, life goes on. In short, God never stops working.

We don’t need to stop doing the things that matter in our lives because we’re feeling bad — until we feel good. We need to be able to live our lives despite feeling difficult emotions. We need to continue pursuing and fulfilling God’s purpose for us. Because there isn’t an alternative.

Don’t buy to Satan’s lie that things aren’t working since he isn’t the one who’s is working. You aren’t the one who is working either. Jesus Christ, the author and the finisher of your faith is working for you. When Jesus is working, even if you can’t see, believe that everything is working for your good because with Him all things are possible.

Jesus wants you to bring to Him the source of your difficult emotions — anger, grief, disappointment, hurt …. He wants to address it through personal communion with Him. Because he feels with you since He experienced similar emotions. Nevertheless, the difficult emotions didn’t stop Him from his redemptive assignment.

When we’re feeling difficult emotions, it is better to spend time with God reading the Word, meditating on it, praying… than to hopelessly bury our heads in the sand so we won’t notice, so we won’t be noticed. Even when we hide from people we can’t hide from God as the Psalmist declares in (Psalm 139:7). He’s our life and spirit. Our security is in Him but not in people and the things we can see, feel or touch.

Keep the faith!
